What is a rake race?
A Rake Race is a competition held by poker rooms. Winners are those players who accrue the most rake, raked hands, or frequent player points (FPPs) on a poker site in a given time period.
Like any competition a players chances of finishing in the money and the amount that can be won can vary dramatically from poker site to poker site.
There are three main types of rake race:
- Rake race: This is where those who have paid the most rake win cash
- Raked hands race: This is where those who have played the most raked hands win cash
- FPP/Points race: This is where those who have earned the most Frequent Player Points (FPPs) on the poker site win cash.
Rake races are hosted both by poker rooms and by websites such as this one, prize pools can vary from a few hundred dollars for finishing first, to severak thousand dollars for finishing first. Races also vary in duration from daily, weekly, bi-weekly and monthly.
The most profitable rake race for any given player is dependent on several factors, including:
- What stakes you play
- How much time you are able to commit to playing
- How much competition there is for places within the race
- Overall prize structure
All these factors will be discussed in much greater detail in our ‘rake race strategy‘ section, in our blog, and in our forums when this site fully launches in Jan 2009.
